- Ensuring local election officials have the needed IT security support to keep current with evolving election security threats and keep all software up to date.

I am writing to express my concern about the threat of hacking and computer error in our current voting system.

What steps have you taking or are you planning to take to address the election security crisis?

The election security crisis has simple solutions.

Election security requires consistent funding to ensure that election officials can afford the equipment and IT security support to deal with ever evolving threats.

Do you support consistent county funding to ensure our voting systems are secure?

Are you working to ensure federal and state funds allotted for election security are making their way to our county as well?

Software can be hacked, but paper can be used to check any problems with the electronic voting systems from registration systems to vote counting machines.

There are simple solutions that can help protect the vote everywhere:

1)	Voter-marked paper ballots – every voter should have the option to mark by hand or with an assistive device in every polling place. These can be counted by scanners that are cheaper than other voting machines.

2)	Rigorous post-election audits – audits should take place before any election results are certified, a small % of the total paper ballots need to be recounted by hand to check the machine vote count to detect computer errors or hacks. Audits should be publicly observable, and should be able to expand to full recount if there's a major problem identified.

3)	Secure Voter Data: Voter databases should be backed up offline, monitored and secured using best practices. Poll workers should trained to ensure that voters can cast a vote in case of a hack or error.

4)	Election security upgrades for election offices and training for election officials. The voting system is only as secure as the weakest access point, election officials need training, professional cybersecurity staff and support if we want them to be able to take on sophisticated cyber-attackers.

These simple protections are not fully in place in most states in our great nation, I am writing to ask you to protect the vote in our state by supporting the above reforms as needed, and the funding to make them a reality.
