Support Austin Climate Funding

The Austin Climate Equity Plan and the goal for the community to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 are great, but talk is cheap and the plan can’t be implemented without funding.

The climate crisis is here. It’s the crippling heat, the unseasonably strong hurricane that just hit our neighbors in Houston. We can’t solve the problem this year, but we can get started. A Climate Bond package that consisted of the following items was in the works until very recently and could still be revived:

  • Solar and batteries for city buildings and operations (this will actually save the city money)

  • Land acquisition (to preserve water supply and quality, mitigate flooding, sequester carbon, and meet other city goals)

  • Tree planting (with a focus on East Austin and parts of the city with fewer trees)

Email Mayor Watson and the Austin City Council now to ask that they give voters the option to approve a Climate Bond on the 2024 ballot.
