Tell the Senate: Stop the Courts from overturning public protections

The U.S. Supreme Court just issued a ruling that threatens the government’s ability to protect the public and the environment from harm.

The ruling in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo and Relentless, Inc. v. Department of Commerce overturned a 40-year-old legal doctrine called “Chevron deference” that instructs judges to defer to federal agencies about the meaning of a statute, when the statute itself is ambiguous and Congress delegated authority to the agency to implement it.

Congress must act now to codify Chevron deference and prevent this ruling from undermining protections for consumers, workers, the environment, and public health and safety.
