Pam Bondi Should Denounce Donald Trump’s Pardons of January 6 Offenders

Here’s what Pam Bondi said — during a Senate hearing over her nomination to be our nation’s next Attorney General — when asked if people convicted of violently assaulting police officers on January 6 should be pardoned:

“Let me be very clear in speaking to you — I condemn any violence on a law enforcement officer in this country.”

Bondi said that just five days before Donald Trump let 1,500 of his fellow insurrectionists, including those convicted of attacking police officers, out of jail in a brazen and unprecedented act of totalitarianism.

To Pam Bondi

One week ago, you told the United States Senate and the American people that you believe violence against law enforcement personnel is unacceptable. Surely you are unwilling to serve as Attorney General — the chief law enforcement official in the country — under the man who just let hundreds of people who attacked police officers out of prison and back onto the streets. You should speak out against Donald Trump’s unconscionable and dangerous pardons. And you should withdraw your name from consideration to serve as Attorney General in his administration.
