Renewables Keep Texas Running. Reject SB 819.

Senate Bill 819 could soon go to the full Texas Senate, where it needs to be stopped. If signed into law, SB 819 would target the renewable energy industry by requiring regulations not applicable to facilities that generate electricity by burning fossil fuels.

Giving the polluting industry the upper hand is unfair and unproductive. This bill appears to be an effort to try to stop renewable energy from winning the race to keep Texas powered. But Texans want the lights on.

Tell your senator to vote NO on SB 819 when it goes to the Senate floor.

SB 819 is unfair and unproductive. It targets the renewable energy industry for regulations that won’t apply to fossil fuel energy producers. Discouraging renewable energy deployment will only worsen reliability problems.

As you know, Texas needs a lot of energy to keep running, and we will require a lot more in the coming years if we want to continue to thrive and have a strong economy. It makes no sense to stall the progress of renewables, which kept the Winter Storm Uri power shortages from becoming a bigger disaster and saved us from outages on the brutal summer days when ERCOT, the grid’s manager, issued urgent pleas to conserve electricity.

Texas leads all states in wind energy production and is second in solar. Let’s let that trend continue. Renewable energy means clean, reliable and affordable electricity and thousands of jobs.

Regulations are meant to protect the public. However, the one-sided approach of SB 819 looks as if this bill is intended to protect fossil fuel corporations' bottom lines. If the concerns about siting and environmental impacts are genuine, why doesn’t this bill set the same requirements for all energy sources, and for other major industrial facilities?

I ask you to say no to it if it comes up for a vote in the Texas Senate.
