The Senate will soon vote on the GENIUS Act, a bill that claims to regulate stablecoins — a type of digital currency.

But in reality, this bill will open the door to letting Big Tech and wealthy families like Donald Trump’s act like banks without giving customers the protections they’d get at banks or other financial institutions.

I’m reaching out to urge you to vote NO on the GENIUS Act.

We need regulations on cryptocurrency, including stablecoins, but this bill is not the answer. It invites wealthy families and Big Tech companies to start offering their own stablecoins while not giving customers the protections they deserve. For example:

- The GENIUS Act doesn’t create standard consumer protections like prohibitions on excessive fees, quickly increasing fees, long waiting periods to get your money, or playing favorites by setting one fee for one customer and one fee for another. People holding US dollars at banks enjoy all these protections, and people holding stablecoins should too.

- If a stablecoin fails, this bill would allow a person or company to not pay out coin-holders for years.

- This bill incentivizes weak regulations by allowing people or companies with stablecoins to choose in which state to register them — so states will compete to have the least-protective regulations.

Please stand with the vast majority of Americans who either don’t know much about crypto or don’t trust it. Please support strong consumer protections for people using stablecoins and oppose the GENIUS Act. Thank you for your time.
