Tell Gov. Newsom and the California Insurance Commission to stand with fire survivors

Thanks in part to the thousands of Public Citizen supporters who spoke out, California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara has launched an investigation into complaints from hundreds of survivors of the Los Angeles wildfires.

The investigation is ongoing and survivors say they still haven’t been paid. They’re draining their savings and going into debt to survive. Outrageously, State Farm just requested another 30% rate hike.

Sign the petition to demand California Gov. Newsom and Insurance Commissioner Lara finish the investigation and ensure the fire survivors get paid before even considering allowing State Farm to hike rates again.

To California Governor Gavin Newsom and Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara

The 400+ firsthand accounts collected by Eaton and Palisades survivors show systemic delays, denials, and underpayments by State Farm to longtime policyholders. Families are losing everything.

I urge you to expedite your investigation into State Farm, release the findings, and ensure full payment to these families — before any further rate hikes are considered.

Dear Governor Newsom and Commissioner Lara,

I am writing as a concerned policyholder. What’s happening in California sets the standard for how insurance companies will deal with policy holders and state authorities across the country.

The 400+ firsthand accounts collected by Eaton and Palisades survivors show systemic delays, denials, and underpayments by State Farm to longtime policyholders. Families are losing everything.

Yet even with this record, State Farm now seeks a 30% permanent rate hike.

California is the nation’s largest home insurance market. If corporations can break promises and still receive a billion-dollar windfall, no policyholder in America will be safe.

I urge you to expedite the investigation, release the findings, and ensure full payment to these families — before any further rate hikes are considered.

A fair insurance market depends on insurers honoring their contracts. That requires your leadership now, for California and for all Americans.

Sincerely,

Eaton Fire Survivors & Supporters
