Texas is a unique state, and its people love our freedom. And that’s why it is shocking that Gov. Abbott and his allies in the Texas Legislature would so willfully cave to President Trump’s attempt to rewrite the congressional district map now, rather than at the beginning of the decade, when it is almost always done.

As a Texan, I ask you to reject President Trump’s attempt to keep total control of the federal government by rigging congressional districts in his favor. This is the president changing the rules of the game and, while he’s at it, reshaping the entire playing field.

Fairness is a Texas value. I ask that you reject this unfair plan and instead focus on addressing urgent problems, including assisting with recovery efforts in the Hill Country communities devastated by the July 4 floods and doing what’s possible to prevent such tragedies from occurring again.

You know rewriting the maps now is unfair. You know it’s being done for corrupt and self-serving reasons by the president. I ask that you defend the votes of millions of Texans, not the whims of one man in the White House.
