Message to Congress on ICE, CBP Reforms with Shutdown Looming

Our nation’s immigration laws can be enforced without masked, unidentified thugs carrying out a campaign of lawless terror on our streets. The tactics we’ve seen from ICE and CBP over the past year are not necessary to enforce the law or to keep Americans safe. In fact, ICE and CBP agents are very obviously endangering Americans by the thousands, all across the country, day after day after day. But ICE and CBP are doing what secret police forces do under authoritarian regimes that seek to intimidate a populace into submission under the guise of “law enforcement.”

To Democrats and Republicans in Congress

If you are a Republican, please look in the mirror and ask yourself if you really want to shut down the federal government, again, to help Donald Trump continue deploying masked, unidentified, armed agents against the American people when doing so has obviously gone beyond anything remotely related to legitimate enforcement of our nation’s immigration laws. If you are a Democrat, please understand that the American people need you to stay fully committed to reining in ICE and CBP.
