I urge you to reject Billy Long’s nomination to be the next IRS Commissioner.

Long is on the record supporting policies that would hurt working Americans: He co-sponsored bills to eliminate the estate tax, replace progressive taxes with a regressive flat tax that would allow wealthy people to pay a smaller share of their incomes than low and middle-income people, and even co-sponsored bills to abolish the IRS. He also worked in a fraud-plagued tax credit industry after leaving Congress. We need a leader for the IRS who we can trust to put working people first and crack down on wealthy tax cheats, not make life easier for them.

We also need to keep the progress the IRS has made in recent years. The agency has focused on improving customer service, holding wealthy tax cheats accountable, and investing in services for working people. The Direct File program, for example, has already saved 15,000 eligible taxpayers $5.6 million in preparation fees.
