Call Now: The Senate is voting soon to cut Pentagon spending

The Senate is voting tonight on a proposal from Senator Bernie Sanders to cut 10% of the Pentagon budget and use the savings to pay for dental coverage for personnel instead.

It has been years since the last vote to cut Pentagon spending. Building support for this proposal is a major opportunity to tackle waste at the Pentagon, reclaim exorbitant profits from military contractors, and invest in human needs instead.

But this vote is happening on short notice and now is our *only* chance to weigh in.

There’s no time to waste. Please call your senators right away — the Senate accepts calls even during the evening — and tell them to support Senator Sanders’ amendment #3853 to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Call (202) 224-3121 and ask to speak to one of your senators. You’ll call twice to reach both of them.

Once you’re connected to their office staff, here’s what you could say:

"Hello! My name is _____ and I live in ______, [STATE]. I’m calling to ask you to support Senator Sanders’ amendment #3853 to the National Defense Authorization Act. It’s far past time for us to cut wasteful Pentagon spending that enriches military contractors and invest in real human needs.

Please vote in favor of this proposal. Thank you for your time.”

(If you’re in Vermont, you’re welcome to call Sen. Sanders’ office and thank him for proposing the amendment as well.)
